Children busy doing tests this week so they've little time for more creative pursuits so a couple of pages from my pocket moleskine;

A cyclist (tour de France soon) and Harry 'BOTter! (Winces and waits for the lawsuit!!) Both scans look a bit washed out - wonder if my scanner is poorly now.

Today we continued our foray into pop art by reproducing pics in the style of Andy Warhol. We used the good old tracing paper method of transfer.

A few weeks ago we were asked to paint some flags/banners. They had to be non-specific to a particular country or organisation, so after much head-scratching, this is what we came up with;

The motif runs centrally down the vertical length of this banner and represents a variety of nationalities reaching out in friendship. Another had a circular version of the same idea;

Computer back and hopefully fixed! A few pics of what we've been up to lately - enlarging images using grids (after looking at Roy Lichtenstein's work) and appliqueing 'decorated' elephant designs (for a topic on India);

aargh!

Regular laptop computer poorly again - initial diagnosis was a loose cable between screen and keyboard but the gremlins returned. Now supposedly needs a new screen! If this doesn't work then it might be more humane (and certainly cheaper in the long run) to have the thing put out of it's misery. This is posted on a computer that isn't linked to the scanner and can't read SD cards so no pics of the work that the children have been doing - namely enlargements of cartoon characters a la Lichtenstein. We're 'doing' Britain since 1948 as a history unit, so in art are looking at 60s 'Pop' art (from a wider world perspective). Hopefully the newly restored laptop will come bounding back into our lives soon.

a night at the museum

Into town last night for a mooch around the museums, galleries and other exhibition spaces. It was a special town-wide event that saw the streets thronged. The venues stayed open until early in the morning, though I flagged long before that! Found some little galleries that I previously hadn't known about. No pics 'cos I forgot the camera (doh!), though in some cases the work on show wasn't to my taste or liking! Beer/wine and plenty of food stalls made for a convivial atmosphere. The main churches offered organ recitals and the chance to rest weary pegs. Thoroughly enjoyable - shame it appears to be only an annual event.

Have now sold out of the first edition of 'A is for Art' (all 4 copies) and will have to reprint!!

cards

Hand-drawn and coloured cards - just as quick for me as all the faff that goes with printing them. I'm planning to sell these in my shop, in packs of two.
