mural completed

Here's a pic of the 'finished' mural I've been painting on and off for the last few weeks. Not ecstatically happy with it but time ran out on me to do a more detailed job. It looks good from a distance and does brighten the wall up!

Hopefully the children will enjoy spotting all the different creatures, counting the red/white/yellow flowers, as well as discovering which ladybird has the most spots etc.

Mural and cards

A quick pic of a mural I'm currently in the process of painting in our FS2. I went for simple, bright graphics rather than a 'realistic' representation.

And I hadn't realised what a variety of 'designs' I've created on my hand-drawn cards until I began to sort them into groups today! I've obviously done a lot more of some designs than others.

Must start trying to sell some.

torchlight

The y3's theme this term is 'see the light'. To this end we've created images that show that colours can only be seen when there is an available light source. I think I saw an image on the Internet that sparked me off.

The production of poppies continues apace. More have been sculpted today. I think we might end up with 300+ which should make for a very effective display. Next week - glazing!

weaving

Y5 today completed their weaving projct by adding found, natural materials. A few lucky children found feathers to weave in whilst others were content with greenery.

 

 

 

We then tied them (securely we hope) to the fence that lines the walk up to our 'Forest Schools' area. It'll be interesting to see how they change over the coming weeks after being exposed to the elements.

 

back to work

Half term is over - back to school for the final push before the summer break! The final bit of art we did before the hols was to complete our recycled pieces in Y5. Card, buttons, wire and straws were all pressed into service to create our wonderful floral decorations. They have been placed around the school in an effort to brighten some dark and dingy corners.

One Y2 class drew postcards of their islands using pens.

 

The other Y2 class painted their clay dinosaurs.

Y5 painted both their compass-drawn flowers (from packets/cereal boxes) and tins (to be used as vases) as part of their recycling studies. We plan to assemble them into finished pieces next week.

this past week

This last week was mainly taken up with going back to UK and back for my son's graduation, so I was only in school for a couple of days - I could get used to that!

The mural on the FS1 wall is now finished - I hope. Barring rain storms and helpful little hands touching the paint to see if it's dry, it should be ok to varnish this week.

And, as a thankyou for the children in my Enterprise club, who've been busy this year making things to sell at our school fairs, I've made some robot pencil toppers. Wooden bobbin bodies, shaped 'lollipop' arms - jointed using thread and beads, wooden bead heads and screw in eyelets for antennae.

We've been painting 'murials' (in Hilda Ogden speak) on the outside wall of our FS1 building. It's a work in progress and will take a good few weeks (time and weather permitting) as there's over 20m of wall to do!

 

 

 

 

 

 

We've started with flowers and vegetables as this section is next to the garden area.

Been stitching and sewing again today - continuing with our secret (!) mothers day gifts.

They look quite good en masse (hastily thrown into an old pot).

This week has seen members of the Enterprise club begin making felt bookmarks - we're on a roll after selling all of our phone charms within 2 days!

In yr5 we have started to create 'artificial' flowers ready for mothers day gifts. The children found them a bit difficult but they persevered and hopefully a bunch of them should hide any faults!

We plan to wrap the 'stalks' with wool/string/thread.

Y3 today, in a spirit of cooperation, produced a body of work that, en-masse, loosely represents a spring meadow. They each painted a bit and then passed it on, whilst receiving another piece to add to. This round robin proved quite successful, with the first class painting 'textured' backgrounds for the next class to add flora. A variety of techniques were incorporated including overpainting and scratching out.

Might well add other media including collage, oil pastel or even a bit of stitching!

Today Y3 did some good old fashioned constructions using pairs of compasses.

Links Art to Science ('helping plants grow') and Numeracy (shape and space). We will also use the idea for Mother's Day cards.
