origami

As part of the Literacy unit on 'instructions' the y3 children have been creating origami pieces. These are my 'here's one I made earlier' and are all made from a very similar set of folds - in fact the tiger and polar bear are identical right up to the colouring in stage. 

 

All of them were made from a square piece of copy paper. The 'Pudsey' (Bottom pic - right) is in anticipation of 'Children in Need' on Friday.

teddy bears and tudor houses

In y1 today we painted teddy bears. We had a book day (a week behind the rest of the world!) and they were looking at traditional stories - ie. Goldilocks etc.

After a quick drawing session of how to represent teds using simple shapes (circles and ovals) we went onto using brushes and painted the shapes straight onto the paper, using brown paint that we mixed from scratch (red, yellow and then blue).

 

 

 

 

Yesterday in y2 we printed some Tudor houses using lengths of wood and the edges of lollipop sticks(to go with the 'fire' we painted last week - to eventually make a piece representing the Great Fire of London).

teddy bears

End of a very stressful & busy week. Spent the last part of today drawing teddy bears (in honour of Pudsey/Children in Need).

 

Hopefully, now the inspection is over, we can actually get on and enjoy teaching and learning stuff without having to worry whether or not we've crossed every last possible T and dotted all the I's.

A couple of raffle prizes for the 'Children in Need' day we're having on Friday at school. Should have taken it before I put them in frames, to lose the flash.

Today, after looking at several images representing sounds, we listened to various instruments and had a go at showing them as marks/'pictures'.

We then listened to pieces of music and did likewise. Next week we hope to introduce the idea of colour to further enhance our impressions of sounds with a view to creating a finished piece that can be displayed on our science wall - we just happen to be studying sounds in science too!

digi stamp!

After advice from a fellow etsyian I've taken the plunge and listed a 'digi stamp'. Apparently folk pay for an image to be zapped straight to them - so that they can colour, re-size and print it exactly how they want. This is definitely new territory for a technophobe like me. The home-made blue watermark is to deter scoundrels from simply saving the image straight from the listing - not sure how effective it is though!
