A couple of recent paintings - 'Irene' & 'Harriet'. Both mixed media on 15x10cm canvas boards.

 

Must, must, must get these listed in my shops.

In Y3 we used straws to blow watery paint around.

 

 

We then used these fantastic 'paintings' to create images of the Gorgon's - those mythical sisters from Ancient Greece (Medusa, Stheno & Euryole) who, with one glance, could turn you to stone. 

 

We used ring reinforcers ( those little sticky circles) for the eyes and added other details with felt tip pens.

Another small mixed media piece. This one is monochrome in keeping with the subject matter. Might texture/pattern her coat.

 In Y4, as part of their study into Vikings we made some longships. We adapted the coil method that they had previously used when they were Y3's (see a post recently for the current Y3's ref. Greek pots). The lollipop sticks will be the stern post and prow (with attached card dragons head). We smoothed the insides and kept the coils showing on the outside to represent the wooden planking.
we'll paint them when they're dry, add cotton sails and embroidery thread rigging.

 

 

Meanwhile, I've managed to do a few small mixed media pieces. These are destined for either my Etsy or Folksy shops, or I might even dabble with the behemoth that is ebay!

A few pics of stuff we've been doing around school over the last couple of days. Y2 are about to start a project on mini-beasts (and maxi-beasts ie. dinosaurs!) so we drew some spiders. In the top left corner you can see the child's initial drawing of what they thought looked like a spider. He was amazed at what he came up with following some guidance. 

 

 

 

In Y1 we completed our project on vehicles by constructing a rolling chassis and adding suitable bits and pieces to represent a specific form of transport.

 



 

 

In Y5 we looked at toys made by children in less fortunate parts of the world and then set about creating our own from bits and pieces that we had lying around - off cuts of wood from earlier projects, lengths of thread/wool, bits of wire etc.

 



 

 

In Y2 we also put together our Fire of London display using the mixed media pieces we created just before the Easter hols. It just needs a few written pieces to finish it off.

 



today

In Y2 (6/7 year olds) we collaged our painted (colour-mixed 'flames') and printed (Tudor houses) pieces into mixed media representations of the Great Fire of London.

 

 

Great expressions on this couples faces as their house and belongings go up in flames.

We've also completed our appliqued/embroidered riverscapes in Y6 (10/11 year olds) - here's a  birds-eye view of part of it.

Meanwhile, I managed to find a bit of time to complete another 'boys playing footy' picture. Spread them out a bit this time and placed them against a wall with a 'chalked on' goal.

'bot trial

On my painting table at the mo' is a trial pic of a robot. It's mixed media (collage, acrylics & ink) on a 10 x 10cm canvas board. The prelim sketch is at the side. I'm not convinced that the painting 'works' any better than the sketch. I've been toying with putting some 'bot pics in my 'shops' but I'm not sure whether to go with coloured line drawings on paper (that I'd price up at $2 or so) or full blown paintings (for which I'd have to charge more). I would really appreciate any feedback.

footy supporters

Another painting - this time a view of some footy supporters eagerly watching their team (Newcastle, Fulham, West Brom ??) from the terraces.

Inspired by the monochrome stuff we did yesterday, I had a go at doing one of my pics just using grey tones. I think it came out pretty well. Quite current as well, what with 'The Artist' being the film of the moment.

Managed to take a slightly better pic of the Jazz Combo piece and have listed it in my Folksy shop. Would welcome any thoughts on how I could promote the shop and my artworks - not sure how twitter works and am not particularly keen on joining up to facebook. Any other ideas?

Have just listed 3 pieces of art in my Folksy shop. The only thing is - these are all wearable!!
They are all mixed media pieces on 5x5cm canvas board, each with a regular brooch fastening bonded onto the back.
They look great whether they are being worn or displayed on the dressing table.
Would love to hear any comments.

brass band

The evocative strains of a brass band can always be guaranteed to draw a crowd. The pomp, spectacle, and rousing tunes serve to tug gently at the heart strings of most northern folk. Despite the demise of the mining & textile industries, many bands are still in existence. A village fete would not be complete without a stirring soundtrack provided by the local brass band.
