peg 2

Have made another unique, naive piece of folk art - Peg 2. She 'wears' a slightly battered and faded heart (possibly too many unrequited loves & missed opportunities). Could you be the one to make her life complete and give her the tenderness she deserves - or perhaps you know someone who would! An ideal valentine keepsake for the one you love.
She is jointed using red embroidery thread and vintage, hand-made French nacre buttons.
Update - she's now listed in my Etsy shop should you care to peruse. Click on the shoplink.

One of the ebay listed pics sold - though I won't be able to retire on the proceeds! Still, a sale is a sale - yay!!

balancing clowns

Design Technology has replaced Art on the timetable this half term. We're 'doing' moving toys. This week we thought about linear, rotating and rocking movements, played with paper and sketched some possible designs. We used a circle folded in half as the basis for our rockers and envisaged horses, boats etc. I was inspired, and after school played around with the idea of balancing stuff on the rocker - came up with this. It takes a bit of patience to balance the clowns on the rocking base - am thinking this could possibly be offered as a downloadable.
Would welcome any thoughts.

drawings

Am listing some drawings on ebay - to see how they fare. They don't really fit in with the items in my etsy shop so have not put them there. They measure 10cm by 16cm approx. and were done with ink and pencil crayon.

pheasants

Have been looking at 'Danny the Champion of of the World' by Roald Dahl in Literacy this week. Decided in Design Technology to have a go at making pheasants with wings that move when you pull the tail, as we're going on to study 'moving toys' this term. Quite successful but very time consuming to detail - this is a mock-up I put together to show the children (not accurate as far as a real pheasant goes!).

peg 1

Have tried to take some better pics of the peg doll and have listed it in my shop. Surely someone out there would like a truly unique collectors piece!

peg doll

Have painted up one of the recently made peg dolls in a style after the work of Niki de Saint Phalle - lots of bright colours and dots/lines. It's about 10cm from head to toe. Would love to know what folk think.

Also re-purposed a couple of wooden teaspoons (bamboo I think) as bookmarks. They measure around 14cm in length. Thinking about listing them in my etsy shop.

happy new year

Just back from Christmas hols and psyching myself up for an inset day at school tomorow.
Had a fantastic break - went to New York between Xmas and New Year - the new restrictions weren't too bad. Did all the usual touristy stuff - saw the sights, shopped the shops. Highlight was probably the Tim Burton exhibition at MoMA.

Feeling refreshed, and determined that this year, at least one of my projects/ideas will take off!

We picked a good day for going up the Empire State Building - view downtown towards the Statue of Liberty (way in the distance!).
