collage faces

In y1 today we created faces from cut and torn papers. Inspired by the work of Andy Warhol we eshewed naturalistic colours in favour of bold bright ones.

clay faces and big ships

In y1 today (5/6 year olds) we made faces out of air-drying clay. We used 'sausages' and 'balls' to add the features. Lollipop sticks and pencils were used to impress details. We even implanted wool for hair - we are going to trim them when the clay has dried!

The y5's began to papier mache their ships - they are studying 'Exploration & Discovery' this term. There are 15 ships all together, so more of an invasion force than an exploration!

portraits

Y5 this week had a go at drawing realistic portraits. Their initial 'before' sketches are in the top corner and the 'after instruction' larger. Looks like they listened - they were certainly impressed with the results.

faces

The end of term and everyone deserves a good rest. Have been doodling faces of late - loosely based on a style from way back. Pen and crayon.

Off to London next week with a group of youngsters for an art/drama summer school. Looking forward to having time, in between the gallery visits and workshop sessions to do some serious sketching.
