drawing music

Yesterday I tried to enthuse the class into representing sound visually. We started off by drawing single sounds/instruments - cymbals, a banjo, bongos etc. We looked at the work of Mondrian, Kupka and Kandinsky. Then we listened to various pieces of music and had a go at portraying them as images. This is one of the pieces that was done in response to 'Shake, Rattle & Roll'- you can clearly see the inspiration of Mondrian's 'Broadway Boogie Woogie'.

Easter

Last day before hols today - had time to do some sketches & doodles with the children. Utilised Easter eggs in the place of circular/spherical objects for a bit of whimsical humour.

Further fraction work - getting them to understand fractional parts of wholes. We have previously looked at the work of Mondrian and decided (well I did!) to try and create 'recognisable' abstract pictures based on a simple 4x4 grid.

Again, the children had to label (using a key) the fractional breakdown of their compositions. Am thinking of extending this by painting large versions for display around school.

Harry potTED

Have just uploaded this Harry Potter inspired image, with two teddybears re-enacting a scene from the books/films into my etsy shop. I would welcome any comments.
