Currently on my painting table are 5 football/rugby pics that will eventually depict representations of various teams.

The paintings are now finished. I seem to be accumulating quite a few footy paintings - I must get around to putting them in my Folksy shop.

All are 18 x 24cm, mixed media on canvas board.

                        

A is for...

 Today the y2's drew cheetahs. They have been learning all about them in class and did a 'before' picture (top left hand corner). They then followed simple, step by step instructions to enable them to draw more easily recognisable images. We did both standing and running versions. We even detailed the faces.

A pic of three, first stage, footy paintings currently on my 'painting' table. Each one is on canvas board and measures 18 x 24cm.

dinosaurs

 Y2 painted their dinosaurs today. They had free choice of colour scheme as obviously no one knows what colours they actually were.

 

 

We also painted the inside of the mouths prior to adding the pneumatic mechanisms (syringes and plastic tubing!) that will open and close them.

 



And finally, a commission, well more of a request, for a painting of a local town. The reference can be seen on the left - a greatly enlarged and pixelated image, as the original was taken on a phone and had to be printed out. On the right is my stylised version of the scene - hoping to catch a flavour and sense of the original. Collage and acrylics on a canvas board, 18 x 24cm.

The 'new' style didn't go down too well so have painted up a couple more that might be more agreeable! Again acrylics but this time on canvas board so they can either be hung as is or propped on a shelf.

In preparation for a 'Great Fire of London' collage the children painted 'flames'. It was a good opportunity to revisit colour mixing/primary/secondary colours etc.

 

Meanwhile fresh from the kiln, some plaques of footy supporters. These are designed to be either hung on a wall or propped on a shelf. Not sure whether to add them to my Folksy shop - your views would be greatly appreciated as to whether they would sell.

Finally, a painting that I started today. It's on canvas and measures about 60x50cm.

this week

As school draws to a close - though we don't finish until next wed - we've been busy creating yet more masterpieces!

As a whole school we created a plethora of patterned squares using pens, crayons, glitter, sequins, buttons and all manner of other bits and pieces. These were then glued onto pre-drawn paper patterns. The result can be seen below - it all occupies what was once just a blank expanse of yellow wall. Can you spot the homage to Morecombe & Wise ?

 

 

 

Each figure is about 150 cm tall - each square is 10x10cm.

 



 

 

In y5 today we were inspired by the work of Kandinsky. We used watercolours to create our own abstracts.

 



 

This one is called 'Le Tour'. Can you pick out the bicycles and the yellow jersey amid the chaos that is the peleton?



 

And finally ... here are a couple of pics of what will be my new art room! This is a view from the doorway - the windows stretch the length of the far wall, so plenty of natural light. I'll need to fit upwards of 30 children + desks, stools etc in here as well as storage.

 

 

And this is the view from the opposite corner back towards the door. It's very much a blank canvas (I've tried to remove all trace of it being the former FS2 room!) - I can't wait to put my stamp on it and turn it into a welcoming, creative learning environment.

Today we've been printing. We blockprinted using polyprint (a thin polystyrene tile) and inks to create simple two coloured designs.

 

 

 

 

Oh....and I've finished the large footy painting! Not sure what I'm going to do with it though - if I listed in my 'shops' it would be too large to post! Might just hang it in the staffroom for now.

A close-up of progress so far. Some of the shading/shadowing has been started. I'm going to paint the background a mid-grey, hence the overpainting at this stage. I've got to go over the red and blue again 'cos it looks a bit patchy - might just try and glaze it instead of giving it another thick coat.

The mural on the outside wall of FS1 continues to develop. This is obviously a section that features various forms of transport. The children are going to draw faces onto thin paper which will then be glued into the windows - the whole wall will then be sealed with a coat (or two) of clear varnish.

 

 

 

 

In FS2 we made pirate ships from salt dough. We'll let them air dry before painting and attaching sails, jolly roger etc.

 



 

 

Meanwhile, I've begun to paint the 'huge' canvas.

 

BIG!

Way out of my comfort zone with this latest piece! On a whim, I bought a 70 x 90cm canvas the other day and upscaled one of my footy drawings onto it. Am going to paint it with acrylics and see a) if I can actually manage to do it! and b) if it 'works' as a painting. You never know - it might be the making of me. Wish me luck!

 

 

On an easel 'cos it's too big for me to paint on the table! Another first - easel painting!

Another mixed media piece. This one's called 'Faye'. She's on a 13x18cm canvas board and utilises the usual range of materials. I must try and get around to listing all of these pieces - I'll keep you posted.

staff room decor

Our new staff room is looking a little bare at the moment, so until we can get to IKEA (!) I decided to throw a couple of paintings on the walls.

Started this one on Monday;

 

 

 

 

This is it finished today. Was trying for a sort of scratched film look.

On the opposite wall I've stuck an 'old' painting that was lying against the wall in my 'studio'. Had a couple of nice comments so far about this one;
