today

In our maths lesson today, inspired by the 'picture pie' work of American illustrator Ed Emberley, we reminded ourselves all about simple shapes and fractions by creating pictures from circles.

perspective

With y6 yesterday I took them, step by guided step, through the construction of linear perspectives, both 1-point and 2-point. Most of them rose to the very technical challenge and ended up drawing quite presentable images.

more new pics

Some more new illustrations today. Am liking this adaptation of a previous style. Another tussle for the ball.

I then had a go at copying a newspaper image rather than conjuring a pose up out of my head. Also tried out a new ball design - it's supposed to represent a more modern one with black and white panels.

Then I decided to see if I could do the same, but with a different sport. This image shows Manu Tuilagi (England) trying to outrun an opponent.

And here it is coloured in.

This is probably the last post for this year - have a great Christmas and a very happy New Year - providing we're all still here after tomorrow!

more cards

More hand-drawn card designs. The footy supporters would come in packs of 3 of the same team colours. Must get round to putting these in my Folksy shop, but work is hectic- too busy chasing paperwork around!

ice cream

As part of our German lesson we went to the local ice-cream parlour today. The children all had to ask for their choices in German. Back at school we only had about 15 mins left before home time - so I dug out one of my ideas from way back when and showed them how to create recognisable images of people using an ice-cream cone as a starting point!

Should you be interested, I've got copies of the how-to book - 'Snow-cone Figures' - listed in my Etsy shop.

faces

Some of the slightly older children have done the 'old' favourite of creating self-portraits by completing the other half of an image.

a is for...

In between tidying and sorting the classroom at the end of the school year, managed to doodle a few 'new' images, all based around the letter 'A'.

Am contemplating another 'A is for...' booklet - might do a mixed one like the first (a few copies still available! - please see my Etsy shop) or do a specific 'A is for...Animals'. Would appreciate any thoughts on this.

life circles

In science we are currently 'doing' life cycles. In art therefore I showed the children how easy it was to create recognisable images from circles (life 'circles'). I demonstrated how they could use the same basic template to create pictures of a wide variety of animals - see my 'here's one I did earlier' pics for the polar bear, dog, lion and elephant. I also showed them that the lion could, by the judicious use of spots, stripes etc., become virtually any big cat.

Have put together a very rough dummy copy of my 4-way story book and have decided to send it off to agents/publishers to gauge the response - wish me luck.

austerity pic

Just wondered what folk thought of this idea - here very roughly sketched/collaged out. One picture that can be hung/displayed 4 different ways.
Do they look sufficiently different each time? Does the idea have commercial potential, especially in these 'austere' times?
I would really appreciate any feedback whatsoever (even if it's to shoot it down in flames!).

'Ices'

'Duck pond'

'Play Park'

'High Street'

People could simply hang them a different way up to ring the changes- 4 pics for the price of 1!
