I know we're still in November but our school xmas fair is next week! We've been busy making things to sell - here are some of the hanging decorations we hope folk will buy. MDF wheels, wooden shapes for the wings, dowel for the beaks and a scrap of red felt. They also have wooden tail feathers!

Yesterday the y2's enhanced their Autumnal pics by adding stitched 'grass' and 'bark'. These mixed media pieces have involved printing, collage and now ' textiles'.

In y5 today we looked at the work of Piet Mondrian. We saw how his work progressed from being quite realistic  to completely abstract. We concentrated on the images he drew of trees. We had a go, using charcoal, to draw trees in a style somewhere in the middle! We drew lines and smudged them to try and show form and a sense depth. The ruler (30cm) gives a sense of the scale we worked at.

Today the y2's had a go at recreating their own versions of 'Surprise!' by Henri Rousseau. We changed the tiger for a cheetah and drew, painted and collaged to create our pictures. We only had an hour (!) in which to try and complete them.

Today the y1's created some small paper 'sculptures' of a forest floor. We cut, tore, twisted, wove and glued different papers to represent fallen leaves, grass and twigs.

Here's the 'one I did earlier' as an example, though I think I might have been too enthusiastic!

The plan is to actually display them on a floor (we have some large papier mâché trees that are crying out for a 'setting') away from walking feet!

no time to breathe!

A very busy last couple of days in school. In FS1 they are currently looking at 'when I grow up...'. So we did drawings that literally grew up!

 

 

In Y3 they've just started studying the Ancient Greeks so we drew Greek warriors and mythical beasts. Next week we'll be making pots using the coil method, which we'll then decorate with similar images.

 Today, Y1 painted some huge papier mache trees. We completed 5 in all - they will form part of a magical forest (hence the strange colouring!).

And finally, in Y2 we drew some dinosaurs.

Oh and we've also been making clay islands (based on an upturned thumb pot) but I didn't manage to get any pics! Nearly the weekend - might have a chance to recharge!

This should make it obvious. Today in Art club we painted the panels that I cut out of thick card last week. Next time we plan to add patterns (stripes, zig-zags, spots/dots etc.) in a darker shades of green.

 

It should all be ready to slot together for the beginning of December!

The Y1's created wintery landscape pictures today. We dribbled watery paint down a sheet of paper that they pre-painted a wash onto yesterday. After the dribbling we used straws to blow the remaining drops into finer 'twigs'. We think the end results look very good.
